Uneaten food can be stored in the fork of a branch or sometimes impaled.

Fastening the food in this way also allows the bird to 'butcher' it, pulling and ripping it into smaller more manageable portions.

In this instance there was an immature Grey Butcherbird nearby (making a good deal of noise) which I think was going to be the lucky recipient of at least some of this food.
